An Crann is the first year ASD class established in Maynooth Community College in September 2023. An Crann is devised from the Irish word meaning ‘tree’ which is significant as it symbolises students’ growth both academically and socially. Currently An Crann has 6 students.
The ethos in An Crann is in line with the values of Maynooth Community College.
Our classroom is a specialised learning environment designed to support students with autism in their educational journey. These classrooms typically feature a structured routine, individualised learning plans, and a sensory-friendly atmosphere to accommodate diverse needs. The staff in ASD classrooms often employ evidence-based strategies to promote communication, social skills, and academic success. The goal is to create an inclusive space where students can thrive, build confidence, and develop essential life skills while fostering positive relationships with peers and teachers. An Crann offers students the educational benefits of specifically targeted programmes from LP1 and LP2 where appropriate. Here in An Crann, we promote a wide range of social skills and experiences which see our students interacting an with the local community. This approach is showcased in our annual An Cuan Games, debuted in Spring 2024 and further in a variety of field trips and interaction with the local business community.
